The story of Howard and Fred...

I had this brilliant idea to bring these two little baby ducks home from my dad's store so that the kids could enjoy them at a cookout, and I have to admit I was pretti found of them after the first hour...they were so cute!

Howard (yellow) Fred (black)

I also had heard that it was good to have a small animal, such as a kitten or something to help the dogs with gentleness and sharing..(baby on the way) and since we do not like cats...baby ducks...might work (my thought process, little experiment)

Here is Floyd, Copper, Howard and Fred getting to know one another.

The kids having fun with the duckies

After the cookout Phil and I decided to keep the baby ducks for awhile and enjoy them, along with teaching our pups gentleness.

One day Phil found Fred in his water dish and thought they needed a bigger container to sit/swim in...(they are ducks) So I put a much bigger container about 2 inches deep in for them. That night my girlfriend and I found Howard head first and a goner in the water. (very sad and he drown) Fred crying, we ran to Walmart and got a stuffed duck to put in with him.

We also looked up "caring for baby ducks" and found out that they can not be in water until 9 weeks old or they will drown!

For a day it was just Fred.
He liked to sit on shoulders.
The next day I went back down to dad's and got another duck for Fred, along with two ducks for my nieces and took them to their house (after calling w/ permission of course)

Allie and Jaylayn with Princess and Cosmo!

Here is our two, Ian came to visit.

Both houses had the ducks for abut a 1 1/2 until one morning Phil and I woke up and our two little duckies jumped out of there home and were running free around house. We heard the chirping and looked for the ducks but only found one. Phil and I found the crime scene and feathers in Coppers mouth.

So much for gentleness and my experiment.

I called Angie that day and picked up the girls two ducks and my lonely one and took them down to my mom and dad's wonderful pond.

Thanks mom for taking care of the ducks, they are much happier at your house! We'll come visit.

Floyd lovin!
